In the Advanced TV Innovation of Year category Irdeto won with its App Watch solution. Irdeto has developed App Watch to help Pay TV operators embrace open platforms in their Android TV hybrid set-top boxes while addressing inherent risks such as revenue erosion due to pirated content via plug- ins and poor customer experience due to malicious and/or unstable apps. In short, it helps operators to maintain control of their hybrid Android set-top boxes with tools to monitor and respond effectively and efficiently to any app issue that arise.
App Watch utilizes a light software agent that is installed in the operator’s STBs. The agent allows for anonymous monitoring of app usage and communicates securely with a dedicated cloud-based service. A customizable data-rich dashboard is provided highlighting data such as: app installation metrics, number of STBs affected by malicious apps or illegal plug-ins, etc.
Consumer behavior insights might indicate unmet needs for certain content, gaming experiences or functionality – offering an opportunity to differentiate the offering in the market. Common performance issues identified by App Watch Insights can be fed back to the operator’s support team to simplify troubleshooting during calls with individual consumers. They can also help to inform decisions about whether to display an App Watch notification to subscribers that explains the risks of using an app.
Irdeto also won the Cloud Service Innovation of the Year category with Irdeto TraceMark for Distribution, for its pre-integrated solution with IBM Aspera on Cloud. This combined solution is the first of its kind cloud-based solution that offers studios, post-production, and content aggregators, mezzanine quality file transmission with forensic watermarking in one seamless workflow. The solution embeds an invisible, unique watermark during file download that identifies each content distribution channel. With its new, pay-per-use business model, this pre-integrated solution offers the film industry a fast to market, easy to implement, and affordable solution towards the fight against piracy.
The ground-breaking service is a fully automated solution that provides content owners a centralized and consistent way to watermark a wide range of video file assets during post-production and distribution, replacing disparate visual marking methods and manual workflows of the past. Combining TraceMark with Irdeto’s Online Piracy Detection enables immediate detection of any content leaks and tracks back watermarked content to the source, enabling the customer to quickly implement countermeasures.
