Everyone has their own way of managing projects. Some people love visual boards. Others simply want something that’s functional, with little to no complications. I fall into the second group. That’s why I have stuck with Asana from day one. Asana has helped me manage both personal projcts, and projects that need to be shared with a team. It’s relatively easy and amazing to use. Also, Asana’s free intergratins with Zapier and other automating tools makes it a really compelling product.

I use this on a daily basis. But, just because I use it, doesn’t mean I like it. It’s more so because this was in the business before I came in. Though it is focused around project management, the process differs from what I have been exposed to before. For instance, there’s no Kanban board, which grinds my gears. Dragging tasks between different phases— backlog to doing—can be a chore in itself. It seems that Basecamp didn’t get the memo about what everyone else is doing.

I recommend Trello for people looking for a free project management software. It’s free and you can add many users. While you can only have up to 10 boards, that’s plenty for most people new to Trello or project management software. It also comes with an activity log so you can track changes and you can use the Trello mobile app even on the free plan.

This was a tool that I worked with in my previous job. This is a tool that would be used to launch a rocket ship. It goes extremely in-depth. For instance, filling out a task can be a chore with it’s own process just for completing that. It’s not important for small teams, but when you have a big company with multiple departments and the need for accountability, then it comes into play there. The interface bores me to death, but I can see its relevance.
